Brennan Claybaugh, director of education of Paul Mitchell Schools and the Advanced Academy, recently welcomed five new members to the Advanced Academy team. Emma Long, Jenni Bybee, Monique Sapenter, Nikki Ramos, and Jasmine Brock have met the rigorous requirements for admission to the Advanced Academy team.
“It’s a long road,” Brennan says. “To even be considered, candidates must be employed at a Paul Mitchell School and reach Level 3 certification in their specialty (cutting, color, texture, or makeup). They must be highly recommended by their school owner, a current member of the Advanced Academy team, or another high-ranking staff member.
Once approved, candidates are invited to attend Advanced Academy training (held three times a year) and to shadow key team members at Advanced Academy classes and at trainings and certification sessions at other Paul Mitchell Schools – all at their own expense. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional skills and attitude and complete Level 4 certification before joining the team.
Members of the Advanced Academy conduct staff trainings and certifications at Paul Mitchell Schools. Select team members also teach the information-packed advanced haircutting, hair coloring, and makeup classes at the Advanced Academy for licensed professionals. Most of those courses are 3- or 5-day hands-on retreats, held at various locations throughout the country.
